Little Circus Design

Australian artist Madeleine Stamer's contemporary illustration and works on paper comprise of gentle yet slightly surreal imagery that delivers an edgy punch. Her art is fast becoming a favourite for collectors of indie art and for modern folk lovers for its dreamy sense of sweet innocence and mysterious themes. Her metaphoric style relates to her 70's upbringing, love of nature and daydreaming. It contains sentimental and whimsical imagery echoing Mexican folklore such as the Day of the Dead and European folk tales. During the 80's she was involved in the emerging Melbourne underground graffiti and street art scene which she notes as having a huge influence on her art. Her distinctive freehand drawings feature rich decorative line and beautiful flowing pattern with quirky characters reminiscent of her childhood hero Miffy. Her art work was recently chosen to adorn the legendary The Blackeyed Susans retrospective album.
